Hydromulching is the technically differentiated form of hydraulic seeding. The seed is embedded in an engineered matrix — water-retaining fibres, tackifiers, nutrients, and mineral soil amendments — that actively supports germination and early development rather than serving as a passive carrier. SRBT has developed proprietary hydromulch formulations with Biopolymer Solutions GmbH that achieve establishment performance that standard mulch products do not reach.
The matrix serves four functions simultaneously: surface fixation (preventing seed displacement by rain and wind), moisture retention (maintaining germination-level moisture through dry periods), nutrient supply (initial establishment nutrition without excess loading), and soil interface improvement (promoting root penetration into underlying substrate).
Fibre composition determines physical performance: wood fibre, cellulose fibre, and mineral fibre fractions are combined to control density, water-holding capacity, and degradation rate. Mineral components — zeolites, kaolin, perlite — provide thermal buffering, cation exchange capacity, and structural integrity that organic fibres alone cannot deliver.
The system is modular. Seasonal kits — Thermal Kit for alpine and cool-climate activation, Cool Kit for summer heat stress mitigation, Active Grow Kit for controlled nutrient release — are integrated into the base matrix specification.
Biopolymer Solutions GmbH (BPS) develops the matrix formulations. Development is driven by SRBT field data — substrate interaction results, establishment performance, and degradation patterns observed under real project conditions feed directly into formulation refinement.
SRBT does not apply commodity mulch products on technically demanding sites. Every matrix is specified for the application context.
Hydromulch system specification depends on substrate condition, climate zone, species requirements, and establishment timeline. SRBT specifies matrix, kit configuration, and application parameters as a single engineered package.
